AMER News Photographer of the Year

Mario Tama

The jury was in agreement that the winning portfolio consisted of very compelling pictures that could each easily stand on their own. Every frame told a story: the human body fighting extreme heat, the grim aftermath of the devastating wildfires in Maui, and the normalcy of a sunny pool and patio that is anything but. Every image popped, was well-composed, while several left the viewer with a feeling of being on a precipice (quite literally in one case). The mixture of landscapes, people, and drone work were well-executed, and overall, the portfolio demonstrated consistency and excellence.
